When first elected in 1992, 19th District Judge William Hultgren, a
lifetime Dearborn resident, never thought that after serving 17 ears as
Dearborn City Attorney that the Landlord-Tenant Division of teh Court
would be on the front line of the unemployment, credit and foreclosure
crises of 2009.
For the first 15 years of Hultgren's tenure, he estimates
there were three or four evictions a year stemming from a foreclosed
mortgage.
Since Michigan has the dubious distinction of leading
the nation in unemployment this, or course, translates into also being
one of the leaders in foreclosures.
